Copyright, Design and Patents Act

This law protects people that write, create or design create pieces such as music, games, images, literary work or movies. It is an offence to distribute these items without permission from the person that created them.

These items should not be shared with friends, uploaded to a network where others can use it (either a local network or the internet), copied and sold on or rented out.

Important note: The current legal situation is confusing. Up until earlier this year (2015) you could make copies of CDs or DVDs for personal use if you have purchased a copy legally. The law only affected those that distributed the copies. This law may change again so please check back here closer to your exam.
