Pros and Cons

Pros

File Sharing – files can be stored on a server and accessed by all users connected to the network

Hardware Sharing – printers and scanners can be shared rather than all computers requiring individual devices.

Monitoring – software can be used to monitor the activities of users on the network.

Software installation/ updating – software can be automatically installed or updated on all computers rather than installing individually one by one.

Cons

Security – computers that are on a network are susceptible to hacking or viruses.

Reliability – if hardware on the network breaks (eg. the server, hub or cables) then files cannot be accessed

Cost – additional hardware is needed to connect devices together – cable, hubs, server etc.
